Celebrating AmaWaterways’ “Secret Sauce” and Where You Can Find It

When addressing a group of travelers interested in taking a river cruise, a frequent question I receive is “What sets AmaWaterways apart from the others?” This gives me a wonderful opportunity to talk about how our European heritage has shaped the incredible choice of up to 23 included excursions we offer our guests on a 7-night itinerary, and how we pioneered active river cruising with hiking and biking tours and our complimentary Wellness Program.

I also can’t help but highlight our culinary choices that put fresh regional cuisine and surprising local wines in a place of honor. I am also very proud to mention some of the wonderful awards that the team at AmaWaterways has recently received, including four “best in class” travel industry awards - Top River Cruise Company, Best Overall Supplier, Best Supplier Representative and Medal of Excellence - voted on by the 18,000 members of the American Society of Travel Advisors (ASTA). These awards are very special to us as they are a wonderful recognition of how our dedicated teams, loyal guests and exceptional travel advisor partners come together to form our “secret sauce” which has fueled our growth and resulted in exceptional loyalty to the company for more than 20 years.

From one ship in 2002 to 28 ships in 2024 – we continue to push boundaries and innovate to ensure our guests have new travel opportunities to look forward to. Whether it is discovering the natural wonders and colorful traditions found along the Magdalena River in Colombia or delving deeper into the wine and culinary heritage of the famed Burgundy region of France, we are always looking for ways to bring new experiences that are only found along the world’s most fascinating waterways.

We have just released our new 2024 Brochure which can be downloaded in digital format or a complimentary printed copy can be ordered. But we know many travelers are still looking for inspiration for a river cruise vacation this summer, so look no further… the secret sauce is here in this short video during which Cruise Manager Camille shares her favorite experiences awaiting you along the Rhône River in France.

More about the ingredients that form our secret sauce….

Our People

Our vision in 2002 was to create a river cruise company that we would love to experience ourselves, but that only became a reality because we found talented and passionate people that embraced our vision of creating an environment, on board and on shore, where guests of all ages and backgrounds would feel welcomed and valued.

Our Cruise Managers and crew are not only exceptionally talented, kind and thoughtful, but we hear remarkable stories every day about how they go over and above to deliver those “surprise and delight” moments that have our guests coming back time and time again and recommending us to friends and family.

Our entire AmaFamily works together and explores new technology to make sure we continue to deliver first-in-class personalized communication and services to our guests before, during and after their river cruise.

Our Guests

At the heart of every decision made is our guests’ safety and well-being. We want to ensure every person that cruises with us becomes a 100% satisfied guest who cannot wait to reserve their next river cruise vacation with AmaWaterways.

I am frequently asked how I would best describe an AmaWaterways guest and I would have to say that our guests have never really been defined by a particular demographic such as age or profession. Our guests are more about a common spirit of openness to the world. They are usually well-traveled, respectful of the environment, curious about the world without being judgmental, and enjoy fresh and tasty food accompanied by interesting wine shared with friends and family.

Our Travel Advisor Partners

Over 95% of our guests reserve their river cruise vacation with the help and guidance of a professional travel advisor. Travel advisors use their extensive product training, hands-on experience and passion for the business to understand their clients’ individual needs and ensure they recommend the best river cruise itinerary at the right time of year to meet those needs.

We hope to find you enjoying our secret sauce this summer or perhaps later in November on a Celebration of Wine River Cruise where we have an extra dash of spice from our remarkable Wine Hosts!
