Hosted by Stephen Storrs & Pamela Bianchini-Storrs, Owners, Storrs Winery & Vineyards, Aptos, CA

Stephen Storrs and Pamela Bianchini-Storrs began Storrs Winery with the harvest of 1988. Both graduates of UC Davis with degrees in Viticulture and Enology, they had worked and consulted for many prominent wineries prior to starting their own. Beginning with their very first vintage, they focused on the Santa Cruz Mountains – a very cool, marine-influenced climate. Having worked in this terrain for years, they knew there was no better climatic match in California for the classic Burgundian varietals of Chardonnay and Pinot Noir. Their focus on Pinot & Chardonnay was further honed with a fortuitous trip to Burgundy in the 1980’s when wineries and winemakers were quick to open their doors and share their love and knowledge of these special varietals. Their dedication to these two amazing grapes has only continued to grow with their winery. Along their path, they have won multiple sweepstake and prestigious awards, including the Best of Show (& the Golden Bear) at the California State Fair and San Francisco International Wine Competitions. In 2001 they realized a dream with the purchase of 60 acres in the Pleasant Valley district of Corralitos in the Santa Cruz Mountains A.V.A. establishing their estate vineyard in 2007. In 2012, they broke ground for construction of a new energy-efficient winery on the site of a former quarry that they discovered on their property. They opened their new winery & tasting room to the public in 2018. Today, they continue to pursue excellence with every vintage and celebrate the terroir of their unique region in every bottle.

About the Wine Region – The Rhône

Besides providing captivating views of medieval towns and colorful landscapes, the Rhône River connects the dots between thousands of vineyards from Lyon to Avignon. Our Colors of Provence itinerary takes you through this prized wine-producing region in southeastern France, known across the globe as the Rhône Valley. You’ll also get to savor some delightful wines from the Beaujolais region just to the north, where the Rhône meets the Saône. The valley traces the path of the river for almost 150 miles, hypnotizing travelers with grape-covered vines gripping its steep sides. Since it’s so large, the climate varies greatly from north to south as does the soil and wine quality. Thus, the Rhône is divided at the town of Valence into two worlds of wine: the Northern Rhône and the Southern Rhône.
