Unique Multi-Generational Experiences on board

Diversity? Yes, please. Inclusiveness? Thank you very much. Families? You’re Welcome.

AmaWaterways is a family company and we do our utmost to help all our guests, including families, create the memories that last a life time. My passion for travel was ignited at a very early age - living in East Germany, my parents made a deliberate, but not always easy choice, to take my brother and I on amazing trips which opened our eyes and minds to the different people and cultures around us. Our vacations were never fancy (yes, I did fly with chickens beside me once!) but they laid the ground work for what would become my true passions in life – travel, personalized service and the love of diversity in people and ideas.

I believe that sharing diverse cultures, languages, food and ideas with children is so important to opening up their minds to understanding, accepting and taking advantage of the changing world around them. At AmaWaterways, we have opened our river cruise experience to children from 4 years of age and older allowing parents and grandparents to share a true multi-generational experience with their families. With bikes onboard, a wide range of excursions paced from gentle to active walkers, connecting staterooms on our five most recent ships and flexible dining options, we are pleased to welcome families that can share together the remarkable sights, sounds and people along some of the world’s most iconic rivers. For the past three years, we have worked closely with Adventures by Disney as they offer certain of our river cruise itineraries with tours adapted specifically for families that are looking for a more child-centric experience.

I just returned from a Mekong cruise where we had four families with children onboard ranging from 4 to 16 years of age. Their energy and enthusiasm for the wonders around them was contagious and the overall guest feedback scores on that cruise were some of the highest we have ever received.

We believe in the benefits of introducing young people to travel as important life lessons are taught through the places you visit as well as the people you travel with and those you meet along the way. We proudly welcomed on board one of our ships a remarkable high school choir group and are co-sponsors of a very special contest where 60 8th graders and their chaperones will win a spring cruise in the Netherlands and Belgium.

Each company chooses its path to and develops its product to best suit the needs of its target guests. AmaWaterways’ target guests are active travelers who appreciate wonderful food and wine and set out to discover the history, stories and people in the towns and villages along some of the most beautiful rivers in the world. Whether solo travelers, couples, families or groups of friends and relatives… you’re all welcome!
